Why Your Trade Website Isn't Generating Enquiries

A website that looks fine but brings in no work is frustrating. Here are the most common reasons trade websites fail to generate enquiries and what to do about each one.

You have a website. It looks fine. You have even shown it to a few people and they said it looks nice. But the phone is not ringing and the inbox is empty. Why?

    1. It Is Not Built for Mobile

Over three quarters of trade searches happen on a phone. Often the customer is standing in their driveway or sitting in their car. If your website does not load fast and display properly on a mobile screen, they are gone before they even see what you do.

A website that works on desktop but is slow and fiddly on mobile is not a mobile website. It is a desktop website that happens to be visible on a phone. There is a big difference.

    2. There Is No Clear Way to Contact You

This sounds obvious, but a surprising number of trade websites bury their contact information. The phone number is in the footer. The contact form is on a separate page. There is no call button.

When someone wants to enquire, make it as easy as possible. A sticky call button at the top of every page, a WhatsApp link, and a simple form that takes seconds to fill in. Every barrier you put between the customer and the enquiry costs you work.

    3. It Does Not Target the Right Searches

If your website is one homepage with everything on it, Google does not know what searches to rank you for. A customer searching "boiler repair Hull" needs a page about boiler repairs in Hull, not a generic homepage that mentions boilers somewhere in the text.

You need dedicated service pages and location pages that target the exact searches your customers make. This is the foundation of local SEO and most trade websites do not have it.

    4. It Does Not Build Trust

When a stranger lands on your website, they are deciding within seconds whether to trust you. If your site has no photos of your work, no reviews, no accreditations and no information about who you are, they will go elsewhere.

Real photos of completed jobs, links to your Google reviews, your Gas Safe or other accreditations, and a clear about section all build trust. Stock photos and generic text do the opposite.

    5. It Is Too Slow

Speed matters. If your website takes more than a couple of seconds to load, a significant proportion of visitors will leave before it finishes. On mobile, with a weak signal in a driveway, it is even worse.

A fast website needs good hosting, optimised images, minimal heavy scripts and a technical setup that is done properly. This is not something you can fix by clicking a button in a DIY builder.

    6. Nobody Can Find It

The best website in the world is useless if nobody sees it. If your site is not showing up in local search results, you are relying entirely on people typing your web address in directly, which means people who already know you.

To get found, you need local SEO. Service pages, location pages, a proper Google Business Profile, reviews and technical foundations. Without these, your website is invisible to the people searching for what you do.
